Activities for Kids

The Children’s Area offers hands-on activities for the young child that highlight the elements that make up  any culture, including its Games, Arts, Sport, Homelife, and Learning.  There will be enriching opportunities for every child, including the very young child and accompaning parents, complete with a Nursing Station and Shady Picnic area.

JJ Kent – Native American Storyteller and Musician
Hear stories and music from the Lakota Nation, and step in to the real tipi to complete the experience!

African American Cultural Alliance
Come try some puzzles and games that will help build awareness of a wide variety of cultural aspects of the African continent.

Rachel Hoffman’s The Music Class
Join in for interactive songs for the young child, from cultures all around the world.

Metro Parks Theater Dept
Kids will love the fun of creating, rehearsing, and presenting their own play, complete with costumes, on our kid-friendly “One-Minute Theater” stage.

Naam Yoga
Lets kids try some fun Yoga moves!

Your Gypsy Wagon
A new local favorite, Suzi Wright celebrates the music and storytelling that have influenced so many cultures, with highlights from the Hungarian, Spanish, Romany, and others. All from her colorful wagon, that salutes the traveling heritage of many cultures around the world.

Metro Parks Recreation Shade ‘n’ Play
The little ones will love a game of musical chairs, especially when they have to “crank out” the music them selves on our unique “Kid-trola”

Metro Parks Quiet Spot and Nursing Station 
Toddler friendly area, with rocking chairs for nursing mothers.

Home Depot
Building our World: Try your hand at building with guidance from the experts, and take your project home with you!

Metro Parks Musical Petting Zoo
A great chance to try many different instruments. Even the very young child can explore rhythms and sounds in this hands-on booth.
